A Milestone for Mosaic

Mosaic Jewish Primary School (Mosaic) welcomed the Education Secretary, Damian Hinds MP, on his first visit to the school on Wednesday, 7th November 2018. Mr Hinds, Member of Parliament for East Hampshire, visited Mosaic to see an example of truly inclusive faith school set up under the Free School initiative in 2013.

During his visit, Mr Hinds was given a tour of the school which included a presentation from Mosaic’s Torah Team about preparing for Shabbat. Mr Hinds said Mosaic’s facilities were fantastic for a primary school. He also met Mosaic’s therapy dog, Barney, and said it was the first time he had seen a therapy dog in a school.

Following his visit, Mr Hinds tweeted, “Mosaic is a fantastic example of the free schools programme, with a different approach, a strong faith based ethos and a diverse intake.”

“We had been hoping the Education Secretary would visit Mosaic and were honoured to welcome him today,” said Shirley Lee, Founding Chair of Governors. “Mosaic, a faith school for our times, is in its sixth year and thriving. We have succeeded in attracting a diverse range of families from across local communities. We are also attracting families to the local area who have relocated to London from abroad, and were oversubscribed in Reception this year for the first time.”

Mosaic is judged “Outstanding” by Ofsted. Justine Greening, MP for Putney, recently opened a dedicated Art, Design and Technology Room and its first Learning Resource Area, funded by successful bids to charitable trusts plus generous donations made by parents and community members.

“It was a notable achievement for the school that Mr Hinds chose to visit us,” said Headteacher Nerrissa Bear. “Mosaic welcomes children from all faiths, beliefs and none. We have an excellent team of teachers and support staff and pride ourselves on our creative approach to learning and teaching our children respect and tolerance for all peoples.”
