Kate Baum is the Head Teacher Designate of SLJPS. Kate joins SLJPS from her role as Head Teacher of Alderbrook Primary School, a multi-cultural school in Balham a role which she has held since 2009.
Kate, as a specialist in primary mathematics, became one of Wandsworth Council’s first Numeracy Consultants and progressed to manage the borough’s Primary Numeracy Strategy.
Kate is a Hebrew speaker and has been actively involved with Jewish communal life in South London for the last 22 years. She has served on the committee for South London Limmud and developed and ran the children’s programme as well as taking a leading role in planning educational programmes for Family Limmud (now Limmud Fest).
Having spent all her career in multi-cultural mainstream education, the thought of being able to combine the passion she has for being a headteacher, making a difference to every individual in a school, with her personal commitment to a Jewish way of life makes being the head of the new school particularly exciting.
Kate is a graduate of University College London from which she has a BSc in Psychology and Cognitive Science. Following her Post Graduate Certificate in Education, she attained a Masters in Primary Education from Brunel University. She is married with three daughters aged 20, 17 and 11.
