Dear Interested Parent

The autumn is definitely upon us and this week sees many Jewish families celebrating the harvest festival of Sukkot. Across all communities and schools the harvest time is one of particular joy and celebration. This week we held our latest update and next steps meeting of the SLJPS Steering Committee.  It was great to have nearly the whole team together.

The teams responsible for admissions, curriculum, marketing, buildings, recruitment, IT and fundraising, all gave detailed reports. There have been a number of major steps forward made in the last week or two which we hope to share with you as soon as we are legally permitted!! Watch this space.

New this week:

  • Admissions Q&A on our website.  We have devised a series of questions and answers based on feedback that we have already received from interested families. The Q&A can be found here and we welcome input from everyone to ensure that the admissions process is as clear and straight forward as possible.
  • Applications for primary school places are now open. If you are considering SLJPS as an option for your child then please let us know so that we can ensure you are kept up to date and included in all relevant news.
  • We are planning to host a series of open days and local events so please feedback to us so that we can include you in these.
  • Finally thank you to all of you – We have a constant stream of families who are interested in applying for our school. So please keep on sharing your enthusiasm it is definitely proving infectious.

Finally we just want to remind you that you are receiving this email because you registered your interest in the school. If you haven’t done so already please reconfirm the following:

  1. You are still interested in enrolling your child
  2. The name of you child (or children) born AFTER 31/08/2008 and birth-date
  3. Areas of expertise you can offer  (optional)

Your continuing support is very much appreciated.

Best wishes
SLJPS Steering Group

I couldn’t find this information anywhere on the site, could you please answer the following:
    – Will the school close early for Shabbat?
    – Will meals be kosher?
    – Will the school close for all Jewish holidays, or just some? If just some could you tell me which ones. And what if you only close for some then what happens to more observant children, will they miss out on lessons?
    – Will there be prayers? When and which ones?
    – What will they learn about Jewish practices, your curriculum was fairly broad about that.
    – Will boys be taught about wearing teffilin?
    – Will there be mezuzahs on all doors?

I know we’re meant to be making decisions about applications now but as a parent it’s impossible to do so with so little information about what will actually be happening in the school on a day to day basis. I haven’t listed my email as I want this to be answered online so that I can pass this on to my friends who asked the same questions.

    Dear Deborah
Thank you for your post. Our apologies for the delay in responding but it has been Yom Tov. Thank you for raising a number of very important questions. We are happy to tell you that very shortly we will post answers to as many of them as we can on our Q&A section. The majority of the questions that you have asked were addressed in detail in the application that we made to the DfE so we will share these with you, any outstanding questions are likely to be addressed in the coming weeks and we will of course keep you updated via the website.

Also if you provide your email address (please email us at we would like to invite you to one of our forthcoming Meet and Greet events (details of which will also be public shortly) so you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you have directly to the team at SLJPS.
    Best wishes
